Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure (hereinafter referred to as the EIA) is mandatory for any type of economic activity that may directly or indirectly impact the environment and the health of population.
EIA projects in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall be elaborated in accordance with the Environment Code of the RK effective since January 9, 2007, and other legislative and regulatory acts of the RK. Preparation of projects is conducted in accordance with the Instruction on Conduction of environmental Impact Assessment of planned economic and other activities at development of pre-plan, plan, pre-design and design documentation, approved by the order No. 204-п of the Minister of Environment Protection of the RK dated June 28, 2007. EIA includes the characteristics of production and consumption wastes and the assessment of their environmental impact; assessment of physical effect; characteristics of socio-economic environment and assessment of environmental risk when implementing the planned activities.
